How do western astrologers determine if something in the skies is a zodiac sign, compared to Sidereal astrology?|||According to my mail this morning from The Scientific Society for Research and Development in Astrology based in Kolhapur, India, Vedic astrologers aren't going to be paying attention to the astronomers on this matter either. Western astrologers haven't worked with the constellations for over 2000 years. We work with the Tropical zodiac. "Sidereal" is a zodiac sign, not a school of astrology, but while Eastern astrologers work with the Sidereal zodiac to calculate the placement of the constellations, they too are unaffected by the words of one or a group of astronomers. In part, the letter I received read, "Now we in vedic astrology consider 12 signs of 30 degrees each and 27 constellations of 13 degrees 20 minutes etc. So new findings will not affect or effect astrological principles that is prevailing since the inception. "
Hope that helps to explain. This is a unified stand between the Western and Eastern astrological communities. What astronomers choose to do in this matter is their problem, just as it was when they decided Pluto wasn't a planet. We in the West continue to work with Pluto. Why should this be any different?
Hope that helps.|||B/c astrologers cherry pick the facts they want to address and ignore the ones they don't. Simple as that. You can't whine about the astronomical placement of a constellation throwing a wrench into a "system" that has the earth at the center of the solar system and expect anyone to take you seriously.
"...we have advanced technology for that." Yeah we do. And it says astrology is bologna.|||http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-odMTgIok鈥?/a>
We in America use WESTERN (also known as TROPICAL) Astrology, which is not based on constellations at all. It is based on the cycle of the Equinoxes....or in other words based on the Four seasons, our climate in the West. The stars in ancient days were used to tell the cycle of the climate. But we don't need to read the stars to know the climate....we have advanced technology for that. That's why it is called Western Astrology. Therefore we use the planets as a symbolic representation of our signs. Thats why we call them Sun Signs, instead of STAR signs. We do not use stars. In our Astrology we also have moon signs, mercury signs, etc. There are many different types of Astrology. Chinese, Arabic, Indian...ETC...
Monthly we use the planets as a symbol for each Zodiac and season represented because in ancient days the planets represented gods. Each person born on a certain day acts like the god. (That is why March, the month of the first spring, is named after Mars, the god of war. Aries is most like this, being known as the Ram with a fighting spirit and a fiery nature. which is why they start the season in our Western Astrology. You get it?
The man in the news is ignorant because he was basing his find on EASTERN Astrology which deals with constellations or in other words the movement of the stars. That is called SIDEREAL ASTROLOGY and we in America and WESTERN Europe do not USE that type of Astrology. Therefore he is misinformed and misinformed the public as well. There is no new Zodiac. There are just two different types. In fact there are many different types...Chinese, Arabic, Indian, etc.
This is why Astrologers are criticizing him because he is a scientist who has no knowledge about Astrology.
Ophiuchus is not a Zodiac AT ALL!!!! There are many constellations, but Zodiac has nothing to do WITH Astrology. Astrology is more of a Symbolic term in the Western hemisphere!!!!!!|||This has been known about for ages, it's nothing new. There are other constellations as well that the visible planets venture into, about 11, I think, why not include these as well? The fact is ophiucus is not used but it's mentioned in most astrology books. Perhaps because the number 13 is a superstitious number or just that it's too hard to spell and say! Who cares. If all you lot want to get out of your pram and start screaming, so be it.
